11/28/2015 ‘Praying Advent’ Website Helps Our Journey
"Want some help for the Advent journey?
The ‘Praying Advent’ website offers a Daily Prayer for each day of Advent, based upon the new Collects of the New Roman Missal. In addition, there are family Dinner Prayers for Advent, help for parents and for people caring for parents. There are even audio reflections and a few audio retreats. All brief and intended for busy people – to help make our Advent full of grace.
11/21/2015 Personal Care Products for Breaking Free
THANK YOU For Your Generosity.
We are continuing to collect Personal Care Products for Breaking Free and we are grateful for the parishioners who have lovingly donated a variety of items (including soap, shampoo, lotion, hair care products, and African American care products) to help women who are trying to escape the world of sex trafficking. Last year our parish learned about the horrors of Human Trafficking through some eye and heart opening educational seminars we hosted at Annunciation. We decided as a committee to support the Minnesota-based non-profit organization, Breaking Free, which helps more than 500 girls and women each year escape systems of prostitution and sexual exploitation through advocacy direct services, housing, and education.
11/20/2015 Living Our Faith During Thanksgiving
We truly are a blessed community with generous and caring families. Living our theme – “Do unto others as you would have them do to you”, we held our annual Thanksgiving prayer service and food drive for Holy Rosary church. It was wonderful to see all of our students, staff and famileis gather in prayer, hear stories about the people we are helping, and then carry out the many bags of food for Holy Rosary’s families. Our daily prayers call us to serve those in need. Today, we lived our theme and the Gospel message. We are thankful and grateful to be a part of this special Annunciation community!
11/18/2015 Middle School Academic Showcase 2015-16
Introducing Annunciation’s Middle School Academic Showcase.
We are proud to announce the second annual Middle School Academic Showcase. The Showcase will provide a forum for students to show their learning through projects centering on history and science. All Annunciation middle school students will take part in our showcase: 6th graders will participate in History Day, all 7th graders will participate in Science Fair and 8th graders will have the opportunity to choose either History Day or Science Fair to showcase their academic talents in their area of interest.
Approximately 35 Annunciation Middle School math students participated in the 31st annual MAA American Mathematics Competitions 8, held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015. Students competed for local, national and school awards. In 2014 over 150, 0000 students from over 2,300 schools participated in the AMC 8 contest.
On Thursday, November 12 over 100 faith leaders of all faiths across Minnesota gathered together to learn, discuss, pray, and act to prevent future bloodshed from gun violence. This was the kick-off event to start a conversation in our faith communities about passing criminal-background-check legislation in Minnesota. Eighteen other states have passed this legislation and have seen significant reductions in the level of gun violence. The plan is supportive of gun rights, but advocates that rights also carry responsibilities, including making sure that as a society, we keep guns out of the hands of people who will misuse them. Our Catholic Bishops have been very vocal on this issue. After the Sandy Hook shooting, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) wrote:
11/13/2015 Excitement at Preview Night!
Last night we hosted Preview Night for new and prospective families to learn about our school. It was the biggest crowd we have had in years!! The word is spreading about the exciting things happening at Annunciation – our community, our programs, and our strategic vision for the future. Most families were new to Annunciation and are hearing about the great tradition and community in our school – and now with the addition of the IB program – are seeing we have something unique that no other school has to offer. It was fun to see such enthusiasm and feel the energy among students, staff, parents and friends.
A special thanks to the School Advisory Council, APO, other parents volunteers, Lester Bagley, our parent speaker, Rosa Gerdts, our student council president speaker, the 2nd grade performers, Mrs. Strickland, Mrs. Sable, Mrs. Heer, teacher aides, Father Park, and school and parish staff who made the evening spectacular and special for our visitors. It is an exciting time to be a part of Annunciation!!
