    School Events, Weekender

    Introducing the 2017 Annunciation 5K!!

The APO has decided that instead of the APEX Fun Run next fall we will be having an Annunciation 5K sponsored by APO.  This will allow for all proceeds to go to our school!

The 5k run will be on Saturday, October 14th.  Many more details to come but we wanted people to get it on their fall calendars. We are hoping this change will give more families a chance to participate together as well. Anyone can join the fun and all skill levels are welcome.

Thanks in advance for your support,

    APO

  • 05/24/2017 Study Buddies Needed at CommonBond Housing

    Church News

Do you have room in your schedule—and in your heart—for a child who needs weekly one-on-one tutoring (September – May for 90 minutes) through the STUDY BUDDY program at CommonBond Affordable Housing Communities?

“CommonBond provides on-site services that truly meet residents where they live, including youth. The goal is to engage kids in quality, consistent, and intentional programs by partnering with parents, schools, community resources, and, perhaps most importantly, volunteers. The Study Buddies program, which engages volunteers with youth as homework mentors, has had measurable impact and success year after year. Youth in the program benefit from weekly one-to-one tutoring while forming friendships with other “buddies” in the program. It is a life-changing experience for the kids and the volunteers. Study Buddies are needed in Minneapolis and St. Paul. To learn more or to volunteer please contact Arbor at 651.290.6226 or arbor.otalora-fadner@commonbond.org.”

  • 05/19/2017 Accelerated Math Pathway Information

    School Events, Weekender

The Annunciation middle school math department, the Annunciation math team, and our 5th grade team have spent time analyzing our math pathway over the past several years to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all of our learners. In 2017-2018, Annunciation will make available an additional accelerated math pathway that includes Geometry for students who demonstrate exceptional abilities in math. We have offered a one-year accelerated track for the past several years to students with advanced mathematical abilities.

As part of our review process, we have consulted with many of the area high schools that Annunciation students go on to attend. Several expressed concern that some students who are accelerated during middle school go on to accelerated high school math and struggle. This may be the result of students who are “good at school” but not necessary “exceptional in math” finding themselves on an accelerated track in high school where they are unable to succeed. It is an important distinction to consider for placement.
