09/29/2017 One More Step on the IB Journey
This past week, I attend the Minnesota Independent Schools Forum Leadership (MISF) Conference. The annual conference offers informative and applicable sessions, but also is a chance to learn from fellow school leaders. Each year, I am inspired and come away with great new learnings, connections to the wisdom of a fantastic group of school leaders, and most importantly, affirmation that we are doing the right things at Annunciation.
One session, presented by a Catholic high school administrator, shared findings from a Harvard study on skills our students need for the future. He quoted Tony Wagner, a Senior Research Fellow from Harvard, “We are focused on our students passing the test at the expense of failing our kids at life”. Wagner identifies the seven skills students desperately need for their future:

Exhibition involves the grade 5 teachers and students, the IB/PYP Coordinator, the Library/Media Specialists, the Principal, parents, students´ former teachers, and the entire Annunciation community. During Exhibition, students are expected to inquire into a real-life issue, and to take “action” on this issue. Action can be in the form of creating awareness, making a positive difference or affecting change. The central idea for the Exhibition unit is: A person's passions, interests, and responsibilities can lead to action.

09/28/2017 Annunciation Church Youth Choir
The Annunciation Church Youth Choir is off to a great start!
We're only two rehearsals in, and the group is already learning a lot of new music. It's been a lot of fun. While the group is already good-sized, we are always looking for more members, and at this point in particular we are looking for some additional middle schoolers to join. There is a strong contingent of 8th graders, but we could use more 5-7th graders who love to sing. With an increase of older singers, the choir will be able to dig into more advanced repertoire, and the older students themselves will be able to accelerate and really challenge themselves. The more the merrier!

09/20/2017 Youth Choir
Hello Annunciation families-
My name is Nick Chalmers and I am the new Director of Music at Annunciation Church. I am writing to announce the beginning of the church's Youth Choir season this week.
The mission of the Annunciation Youth Choir is to provide parish youth an opportunity to experience the joy of music, learn to become leaders in worship, and inspire the assembly to worship God by sincerity, simplicity, and the beauty of the music they offer. Youth are given the opportunity to learn and perform songs in various styles and languages, and also learn some of the fundamentals of liturgy and music with an emphasis on part singing, reading music notation, and healthy vocal production.
From Fr. Park's reflection in the bulletin (9/24)
I am happy to announce that we have hired a new Director of Music and Liturgy for Annunciation—Nick Chalmers. Please welcome Nick to the Annunciation community! Here is a short bio that Nick wrote to introduce himself to the parish:
