Battle of the Books 2017

Sep 29th, 2017

We are about to have a battle royale...

The 6th Annual Battle of the Books will take place at Annunciation on Tuesday, October 17th.  We have over 100 students registered and ready to battle.

What is the Battle of the Books?

The ‘Battle’ is a collaborative reading competition for students in 3rd- 8th grade. It is designed to enhance reading comprehension, provide opportunities for collaboration and encourage students to read quality literature.

How does it work?

Last spring, students registered to take part.  Over the summer, the teams read books from a pre-selected list.  The lists varied depending on grade level.  On Tuesday, October 17th the teams will gather to compete. (Don't worry 4th-graders, we know you have a field trip:)  The Battle is open to participants only, sorry - no outside guests for this event.

Most competition questions begin with the words, "In which book" Correct answers include the corresponding title.  Books on the reading lists were carefully read by master educators, specializing in reading education. The books were selected for their high-interest level, challenging vocabulary, multiple reading levels, and content. The books purposefully expose students to a variety of genres, quality authors, diverse cultures and historical eras.

Battle of the Books Poster Contest

Our Battle of the Books teams have an opportunity to participate in our Battle poster contest.  The posters are due Friday, October 6.  The poster contest is optional and the only requirements are that the poster needs to be on the 8 1/2 x 14 paper (available at the office) and centered around the theme- The Battle of the Books.
