January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month

Jan 13th, 2018

A common understanding (or misunderstanding?) we may have of slavery is that it came to an end at the close of the Civil War back in the 1800’s. Unfortunately in our day, slavery is a real business that thrives here in the US and around the world. In fact, human trafficking is the world’s second largest criminal industry, with the illicit drugs industry as the largest.

Breaking Free is a local organization that provides a full range of support services needed by women who have managed to escape sex trafficking here in the Twin Cities area. In preparation for the anticipated increase in sex trafficking that unfortunately seems to accompany major events such as the Super Bowl, the goal of Breaking Free is to provide immediate and safe shelter along with food and clothing to those they anticipate will be rescued during this time.

Your donations of grocery gift cards and gas cards, along with monetary donations, are needed to help finance these outreach efforts. Donations can be placed in the Mass collection or brought to our business office. Be sure to write “Breaking Free” on your envelope. Checks can be made payable to Annunciation with “Breaking Free” noted on the memo like.

Thank you for your generosity!
