RCIA Prepares for Easter and the Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation

Mar 11th, 2017

This year we have been preparing 5 people to fully enter the Sacramental Life of the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. As a catechumen, Autumn Kisling is preparing to be baptized and confirmed, and to make her 1st Communion at the 8:00pm Easter Vigil, Saturday, April 15th. We have 4 candidates who are already baptized and who preparing for reception into the Catholic Church: Angela Mauer Greene, Justin Nuahn, Peter Moe, and Steve Peterson.

Since early October we have been meeting weekly to learn about our Catholic beliefs, Sacred Scripture, Prayer and Sacraments. During this Lent all of us at Annunciation are invited to support with our prayer our catechumen and candidates on their journey toward Easter. On the 1st Sunday of Lent, we prayed over and for them in the Rite of Sending, before they and their sponsors went to the Rite of Election at the Basilica where Angela and her sponsor were presented to Bishop Cozzens and our 4 candidates were recognized for their desire to become a part of the Catholic Church.

On the Sundays of March 26th and April 2nd when Angela is able to be present, we will celebrate an ancient rite known as “The Scutinies”. These are rites for self-searching and repentance that are meant to uncover and heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect (those preparing for Baptism) and to bring out and strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good.

Please pray for our catechumen and candidates that they will be protected from temptation and the power of the Evil One, and that they will find strength in Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth and the life. Let us offer the prayer, sacrifice and charity that marks our own Lenten Journey for the sake of these 5 people and let us welcome them into our Catholic Faith Community.
