Strategic Plan and IB Implementation Update

Apr 7th, 2017

During the 2013-14 school year, Annunciation completed our accreditation renewal process. Part of accreditation is to create a strategic plan for the next 7 years. As a community, we completed our plan and have been working to bring the strategic vision to life, using the plan to guide our work and improvement efforts.

The first objective was to “Position Annunciation as a Catholic leader, recognized for educating the whole child.”  We want Annunciation School to provide the strongest academic experience within our Catholic environment. After research and discussion, we identified the International Baccalaureate program as a great fit for Annunciation School as we seek to become a Catholic school leader. We began the journey as a candidate school in fall of 2014 for the Primary Years Program (PYP), starting with our elementary program and building up.

Since then, all teachers and staff have been busy bringing the IB program to life within our school. Teachers have been attending trainings, visiting schools, discussing policies and programs, writing and organizing curriculum, meeting and learning about the framework of IB to share with our students every day. This hard work is paying off. We are seeing a transformation in our classrooms and school.

Our goal is to apply for authorization in the fall of 2017 and for an authorization visit in 2018. Then we will continue to grow the program throughout our school.  As part of the process, we have an IB consultant who will help us in our journey. The role of the IB consultant is to support candidate schools in working towards meeting requirements for IB authorization.
