Study Buddies Needed at CommonBond Housing

May 24th, 2017

Do you have room in your schedule—and in your heart—for a child who needs weekly one-on-one tutoring (September – May for 90 minutes) through the STUDY BUDDY program at CommonBond Affordable Housing Communities?

“CommonBond provides on-site services that truly meet residents where they live, including youth. The goal is to engage kids in quality, consistent, and intentional programs by partnering with parents, schools, community resources, and, perhaps most importantly, volunteers. The Study Buddies program, which engages volunteers with youth as homework mentors, has had measurable impact and success year after year. Youth in the program benefit from weekly one-to-one tutoring while forming friendships with other “buddies” in the program. It is a life-changing experience for the kids and the volunteers. Study Buddies are needed in Minneapolis and St. Paul. To learn more or to volunteer please contact Arbor at 651.290.6226 or arbor.otalora-fadner@commonbond.org.”

You can also look at the requirements online at http://commonbond.org/volunteer/:

  • A completed online application (please plan on up to 15 minutes)
  • Attending a volunteer orientation (1 – 2 hours)
  • Two returned references
  • A background check pass
  • An interview with a site coordinator (up to an hour)

If you would like to chat with a parishioner that has been happily doing the Study Buddy program in Richfield for 2 years, please contact Sister Sue, and she will connect you.  Most Study Buddy programs seem to work well with full time employment, with the 90 minute session starting at 4 or 5:30pm.
