Grade 6 Curriculum Highlights

Students will:

  • Use critical thinking skills to comprehend and interpret literature.
  • Understand story elements and how they work together.
  • Appreciate a variety to literary genres.
  • Utilize texts to support ideas.
  • Analyze literature.
  • Demonstrate competencies in writing formal papers, including (but not limited to):
    • Five paragraph essay
    • Biography
    • Myth
    • Structured research paper.

Grade 7 Curriculum Highlights

Students will:

  • Use critical thinking skills to comprehend and interpret literature.
  • Understand story elements and how they work together.
  • Appreciate a variety to literary genres.
  • Utilize texts to support ideas.
  • Analyze literature.
  • Demonstrate competencies in writing formal papers, including (but not limited to):
    • Five paragraph essay
    • Biography
    • Myth
    • Structured research paper.

Grade 8 Curriculum Highlights

Students will:

  • Learn to read and answer questions based on comprehension, interpretation, and evaluation.
  • Be exposed to a variety of literary genre by reading novels, short stories, poetry, mythology and nonfiction.
  • Learn literary terms and devices through direct study within the context of the literature they are studying.

The major goal is that students become lifetime readers.
